Women Can, Women Do
Celebrating Women who lunch and help those who are less fortunate, the theme this year was Angelic. As I was doing research for this years table, it was very touching to realize how many important women in our history came from abusive environments. Many were only able to share their beauty with the world for a short time before the dis-ease created by abusive utlimately took their lives. It gives great hope that organizations are now out there to aid women in recovering. Thank you ladies for giving your time and money!

Arts & Crafts Northern Retreat
Nearing the end of this fun project the space is really coming together! This older 1970's cottage was completely revitalized into a warm and welcoming mission themed retreat. New beams were added to create interest in the
high ceilings, lighter wood tones and colors were used throughout to make the space feel like and open with splashes of grayed greens and blues to compliment the style. Aren't the new sofas fabulous?!

Relax and Unwind...
What a lovely idea this smart client had. We transformed a cedar closet into a bathroom with a circular steam shower. A storage room into a calm texture filled massage room.
The soothing sound of trickling water connects the two rooms with a custom water feature created with an obscured glass. Ah...

Outdoor Living
It's that time of year in Michigan where we can start to extend our interior spaces out. On this house, we added the french doors from the bedroom and created tiers of decking. This allowed us the opportunity to divide up the spaces into public and private areas while also allowing the deck to flow into the landscape and not be separated on all sides with view interrupting rails. The client is an avid gardener and I'm sure it is soon to be surrounded with lush landscaping which will further soften the transition from hard surface to turf. Get out there and enjoy it!

Hope for Spring

The palettes for this spring are wonderful shades of pinks, yellows and corally pinks. It's so refreshing. I'm working on painting my own foyer Razzle Dazzle pink! Why not?! It's just paint right?!
Happy Valentine's Day!

Hunter Gatherer
I attended Surfaces in Las Vegas last week. My favorite presentation was given by some fabulous ladies from Scarlet Opus- a trend forecasting firm out of London. Should I ever tire of actually doing design, their job would be next on my list. They presented to us four main trends that are happening right now in interiors.
The image board shown here represents the Hunter Gatherer trend- so amusing for Northern Michigan. Ironically though none of my Michigan clients seem to have an affinity for this evolving style. I see it occuring a lot more in my big city clients... ponder that one!
This trend embraces Wabi Sabi, the feeling of being crafted by a hand. Nothing is perfect and we can feel it was touched. Yet it is not a sloppy style, everything is deliberate and leans toward clean but just wonderfully weathered. Colors are rich and yet alive. This trend is going to support more furry textures, natural wood elements- both weathered and in their twig form. Nature is moving inside with flair. So go forward, hunt...gather- express yourself!

Newest Member of Design Team
Let me introduce you to Grif!
He will be joining the design team next week as Lancelot's protege. Grif will be involved in a expanded role with Plum Tree. Where indeed Lancelot was an excellent paper shredder, full of kisses and comic releif. I have big visions for Grif...at a minimum I'd like to get him updating this blog on at least a weekly basis. :)
You can already see his sense of style and appreciation of color- just look at that pose next to the red ball! Any suggestions on other skills I should empower him with?!
